01. Introduction
Initial Engagement
Goals & Objectives:
We, Inhousedigital, pitched our services to Moksha’23, NSUT’s annual tech and cultural festival, via social media.
- Pranshu, the convenor, aimed for the aftermovie to be so impactful that it would be the talk of the town, surpassing the aftermovies of IIT Bombay and other major Delhi colleges.
- Pranshu emphasized the need for 24-hour day highlights to be delivered swiftly to keep the excitement high.
Vision:
- Our goal was to capture the festival’s moments and angles in a way that showcased power, excitement, crowd engagement, and diversity.
- NSUT wanted the aftermovie to highlight the wide range of events, from comic con and decathlon fest to a car rally and grand concert stages.
Planning and Preparation:
- To achieve this, we planned to cover the festival’s energy, diversity, and grand scale, including crowd interactions. The theme of cultural unity guided our vision.
- Yash, our creative director, drew inspiration from Neil Chan’s film for Blanke at EDC festival, ensuring we knew exactly what shots and atmosphere to capture.
Team and Equipment:
- Yash (creative director) led the team, with Aditya handling production and two major cinematographers, a drone pilot, and an assistant cinematographer. Our gear included:
- Yash: Sony A74 with 16-35mm for wide shots and 70-200mm for close-ups (handheld).
- Aditya*: Sony A74 with 24-70mm on a gimbal.
- Arun: Sony A7C with 28-75mm on a gimbal and mic for crowd interactions.
- Chirag: Sony A6400 with 24-70mm (handheld).
- Drone: DJI Air 2S.
- Editing: ASUS Zephyrus G14 laptop for rapid editing.
02. Challenges and Solutions
- We faced harsh lighting, scorching sun, dehydration, a large campus with no vehicle access, back-to-back events, no break times, and gear overheating.
- We tackled these with pre-planned shot breakdowns and clear direction from Yash, allowing room for individual creativity.
Capturing the Essence:
- Our interactions with the audience, such as their excitement for performances by Divine, Vishal-Shekhar, and Aasees Kaur, were highlights.
A memorable moment was when Shekhar recorded the crowd mid-performance with one of our cameras.
Post-Production Process:
- Yash linked the aftermovie and trailer, opting for
- Original audio production over trending tracks. He recorded voice scripts from attendees, using these in the trailer with the track “Survive” by Blanke,
- creating a 3D environment with animated camera movements.
- The trailer took over a week to edit (1:20 mins) while the aftermovie (3:20 mins) was completed faster.
- The aftermovie’s opening featured Odesza’s track, blending seamlessly into another song for a powerful impact.
Post-Production Software:
- Timeline and Color Grading: DaVinci Resolve
- Audio Production: Fairlight
- VFX: After Effects
- 3D Environment and Element Creation: Blender and Cinema 4D
